Responsible exploration and extraction of seabed minerals
Since 2011, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has collected extensive data along the Mohn–Knipovich Ridge between Svalbard and Jan Mayen, confirming both the presence and the economic potential of these deposits.
A significant database is therefore available to the companies already before commencement of commercial exploration. Quantum Wetstone’s exploration approach is based on a broad set of data sampling tools and sensors placed on AUVs and ROVs in combination with electromagnetic and seismic surveys customized for seabed minerals.
Deep sea mining bridges proven technology from the ultra-deep water oil & gas industry and the terrestrial mining industry onshore. The mining method is capitalizing on open pit mining equipment while the ore lifting method is resting on the oil industry experience with similar technology.
The mining service vessel could typically be a harsh environment semisubmersible or ship, enabling year around operations. Dedicated purpose built shuttle tankers will bring crushed ore to shore for processing.
The partnership with Wetstone Global, enables Quantum Wetstone to leverage it’s operation on a broad industrial and financial platform with promosing scope for international expansion.
